I wanted to try a simple, mildly spiced kurma for a long time. So I tried this potato kurma without coconut in my own way. My husband liked it very much. Also this is less time consuming & no grinding part is needed.

Potato Kurma Recipe Without Coconut
Easy Potato Peas Kurma recipe without coconut for rice, poori and chapathi.
Ingredients
- 3 Potato / Aloo
- ¼ cup Peas / Green Peas Soak the peas overnite if its dry
- 1 tbsp Besan flour Mix with 1/4 cup water to make a paste
- Salt & water – As needed.
To saute :
- 1 tbsp Cooking oil
- inch Cinnamon
- 2 Cloves
- 1 Bayleaf
- 1 Cardamom
- ½ tsp Ginger garlic paste OR finely chopped ginger, garlic
- 1 Big onion chopped finely
- 2 to 3 Green chillies slit cut
- 2 Tomato chopped finely
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- ½ tsp Garam masala powder Optional
To garnish :
- 2 tbsp Coriander leaves to garnish
Instructions
- In a cooker base, add oil and saute the whole garam masala items.
- Add finely chopped onion, green chilli, ginger and garlic. Saute well.
- Add tomato pieces at the end and saute till mushy.
- Lastly add the potato pieces and soaked peas or fresh green peas.
- Add turmeric powder, salt.
- Dilute 1 tbsp besan flour in 1/2 cup water. Add to the cooker.
- Add more water if required and pressure cook up to 1 whistle in low flame.
- Remove the lid and mash the cooked potato roughly. Allow it to thicken and boil for sometime if the gravy looks watery.
- Garnish with coriander leaves & serve hot with roti, poori or Jeera rice.
Notes
For variations, use red chilli powder instead of green chilli.
You can add garam masala powder along with turmeric powder if you wish.
You can skip peas. But I added it for Protein content.
If you are using dried peas, soak it overnight and then add in pressure cooker.
