of all the gadgets that i have in my tiny kitchen, the electric rice cooker is my favorite. its fuss free and rice cooks the same way every time. Well explained recipe Chitra. Love that beautiful red color of the dish

super tempting one pot meal!!
aaw such a lovely presentation!... I too love this...
Aaaw.. lovely click, I love eating tomato rice often
I have done this tomato rice in the rice cooker before, I have never used the slotted plate. What is the benefit of using the slotted plate? I feel the vegetables and rice would get toasted properly with it.

Lata mam, initially, too tried without slotting plate but i felt the bottom of rice getting burnt. So a layer of rice would be sticking to the bottom.By keeping slotted plate, burnt layer would be in sides only not in the center :)
Nice one, looks delicious. Tomato rice is my all time favorite, next time will try this method.

Best Rice Cooker
Gr8 recepie. Got a doubt though. Do all the rice cookers come with a cooking mode ? which rice cooker are u using ?
Yes, I use Panasonic :)
Hi,
i have a small doubt. Is it possible to saute onions in the cooker ?I thought we have to do it seperately in the pan and add it.Pls clarify this Chitra.
Thanks in Advance
Hi, You can saute everything in cooker directly. No need to use a pan.
Lata ma'am, rice is said to have two types of starch. A starch which breaks down faster in the body and the slower, healthier one. The slotting plate is to collect the starch of the cooked rice to give one a healthier, fuller meal. The starch collected at the bottom is to be scraped and discarded. I have noticed that rice cooked this way makes me less drowsy after a good meal, than say, rice cooked in a pressure cooker after a similar meal.
Thanks !
Tried your recipe today.. came out very well. I am a beginner and the rice turned out awesome.. my mom in law liked it a lot..
Thank you so much for your feedback 😃
Hi,
I too have Panasonic rice cooker but no slotted plate. Can I make it without that plate? And also, when I cook rice some of it sticks to bottom...any solution for this?
Yes, You can make without slotted plate but more rice may stick to the bottom. To avoid this you can open the cooker and stir at regular intervals. Use little more oil as well. Hope this helps.
