This chutney tastes divine with idly & dosa.We do this at least twice in a week.I love this chutney:)We call this as “ Vengaaya Molaapdi”.The key is u should keep the onions, chillies & salt in correct ratio otherwise it would taste spicy or bitter :)
Very simple ingredients:
- Small onions/pearl onions – 10 nos
- Green chilly – 2-3 nos (depends upon ur taste)
- Salt – to taste
How to grind:
- Peel the onions by soaking in water for 5 mins.
- Coarse Grind all the ingredients in a mixie(Just run once or twice-use juice/inch option).
- Take care onions & chillies shouldn’t be grinded smooth.
- Transfer it to a small bowl and check for salt.
- Mix with gingely/sesame oil and serve with dosa!!
Note: U can use big onions too but tastes little sweetish.
ONION CHUTNEY – TYPE 2
Ingredients:
- Big onion – 2 nos ( cut into slices)
- Tamarind – small gooseberry size
- Green chilly – 3 nos ( slit)
- salt – to taste
- Oil – 1 tsp
Method:
- Heat oil in a kadai and saute onions & green chilly.
- Saute till onions turn light golden brown.Cool.
- Grind the above with tamarind and salt by adding water.
- Serve with dosa & idly!!!

Green chilly:

makes it beneficial in combating the common cold and sinus infections.
Onion:
- Onions have the potential to alleviate or prevent sore throat.
- Onions are especially beneficial for women who are at increased risk of osteoporosis (Break down of bones)as they go through menopause.
- It reduces the risk of head and neck cancers.
- Onions are used to heal blisters and boils.
- Onions reduces the cholesterol levels too .
