Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Fresh Green peas / Pacha Pattani
  • 1 Big onion
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds (Rai / Sarson )
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt As needed
  • Water As needed

To grind masala

  • 2 Tomato
  • ¼ cup Grated coconut
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 5 cloves Garlic
  • ¼ tsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tsp Garam masala powder optional

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, Cumin seeds.
  • Add onions, curry leaves. Saute till transparent.
  • Grind all the ingredients given under "To grind masala" to a smooth paste.
  • Add the ground masala to the pressure cooker. Saute till thick.
  • Lastly add the fresh green peas or overnight soaked dried peas. Mix well.
  • Add required water and pressure cook everything together in low flame for one whistle.
  • Open the cooker after the steam is released. Check the consistency and add little more water if its too thick.
  • Suppose if the gravy is watery after opening the cooker, boil for sometime till its semi thick.
  • Serve with plain rice and enjoy.

Notes

You can use dried peas instead of fresh green peas. In that case, soak the dried peas overnight in water. Discard the soaked water and add to the pressure cooker.
Adjust the quantity of chilli powder as per your taste.
Adding Garam masala powder is optional.
