Ingredients

  • 3 cups Siru keerai chopped
  • 1 Big onion finely chopped
  • 5 Garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves few
  • 1 Red chilli
  • 2 pinches Hing / Asafetida
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • 1 pinch Sugar optional, helps to maintain green color
  • ¼ cup Grated coconut
  • Salt & water as needed

Instructions

How to make Siru keerai poriyal

  • Wash and chop the keerai finely. Wash and chop onion, garlic finely. Set aside.

  • Heat oil in a kadai. Splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and red chilli.

  • Add water and cook the keerai till it becomes soft.

  • Lastly add the grated coconut and mix well. Serve with rice.

Notes

  • You can use Arai keerai, Thandu keerai , mulai keerai/ Amaranthus to make this poriyal.
  • Do not skip onion and garlic. It gives a nice smell.
  • Addition of coconut gives a nice taste and good yield too.
