- 3 cups Siru keerai chopped
- 1 Big onion finely chopped
- 5 Garlic cloves finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Cooking oil
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 1 tsp Chana dal
- ½ tsp Cumin seeds
- Curry leaves few
- 1 Red chilli
- 2 pinches Hing / Asafetida
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder - a pinch
- 1 pinch Sugar optional, helps to maintain green color
- ¼ cup Grated coconut
- Salt & water as needed
How to make Siru keerai poriyal
Wash and chop the keerai finely. Wash and chop onion, garlic finely. Set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai. Splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and red chilli.
Add water and cook the keerai till it becomes soft.
Lastly add the grated coconut and mix well. Serve with rice.
- You can use Arai keerai, Thandu keerai , mulai keerai/ Amaranthus to make this poriyal.
- Do not skip onion and garlic. It gives a nice smell.
- Addition of coconut gives a nice taste and good yield too.
