Avocado sandwich | Avocado toast Indian Vegetarian

Avocado sandwich

Here is my second version of Indian vegetarian Avocado sandwich / Avocado toast (Butter fruit) for a healthy breakfast. Its been long time I bought avocado. Recently when I was talking to my friend, she told Avocado is in season now. So I bought one and tried this sandwich. It was good with the slight bitter taste of avocado as mine was not fully ripen. We relished it for our weekend breakfast.

For variations and to make it more interesting and tasty, you can apply green chutney on one side of sandwich. Here I used butter. You can also make it as an open toast. Friends, do try this easy and yummy avocado sandwich recipe.

Indian vegetarian Avocado sandwich / Avocado toast recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • Avocado - 1
  • Big onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli - 1 (finely chopped, optional)
  • Lemon - 1
  • Salt - as needed
HOW TO MAKE AVOCADO SANDWICH / AVOCADO TOAST
  1. Wash and cut avocado into two. Remove the seed and scoop the pulp from the fruit.
  2. Mash the pulp and add finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, lemon, green chilli and salt. Mix well.
  3. Take 2 bread slices, apply butter on one and spread avocado mixture in the next slice.
  4. Cover and toast in the sandwich maker or cook in dosa tawa greased with butter.
  5. Cook both the sides. Remove and serve with tomato ketchup.
METHOD - STEP BY STEP PICTURES
  • Wash and cut the avocado into two. Remove the seed and scoop the pulp from the fruit. Discard the skin.

  • Mash the pulp and add finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, green chilli, salt and mix well. Sandwich stuffing is ready.

  • Take 2 bread slices. Apply butter on one slice. Spread the avocado mixture in the second slice. Cover it. To make avocado toast, grease the bread with butter and spread the avocado mixture in one slice of bread. Cook the toast for a minute and remove.

  • Heat a sandwich maker or dosa tawa. Spread butter on it. Place the sandwich and cook both the sides till it turns golden in color.

  • Remove and serve hot with tomato ketchup. Enjoy !

Note

  • For variations, you can add one finely chopped tomato.
  • You can spread the avocado mixture in one slice and make it as open toast.

Bread Butter Jam Recipe is the simplest and the basic sandwich recipe even a kid can make it easily. Usually kids make this for fireless cooking in school competitions.  I still remember this was my breakfast during our honey moon in Srilanka in a Five star hotel😀.

 Here in Bangalore, I have tasted bun butter jam in small sandwich shops and I just love it. Today I made the same using fresh bread slices. I think most of the moms pack this bread butter jam for their kids school lunch box or snacks box as it can be prepared easily under few minutes. In my case, I have never packed this for Raksha as she is not a big fan of jam based recipes. Somehow she hates the sweet taste in store bought jams. But myself and Sendhil likes to have it once in a while for our breakfast during weekends.

So last Sunday, I made this for ourselves and plain bread toast with butter for Raksha which is her favorite. As we all know, the plain bread butter jam is not a healthy choice for kids. Consuming it once in a while is not an issue but I won’t recommend to eat it regularly. So, to make it more healthy and interesting, we can add some toppings like chopped nuts, sliced fruits, sliced avocado, cheese etc.

You can play with your imaginations and do it based on your kids likings. You can serve it raw or toast it as I did. Tastes good in either ways. But use fresh or 1 day old bread slices for best taste. Now lets see how to make the simple and basic bread butter jam recipe with step by step pictures.

Bread Butter Jam Recipe

Bread Butter Jam Recipe for quick breakfast or snacks.

INGREDIENTS

  • Milk bread or brown bread - 9 slices
  • Mixed fruit jam - as needed ( I used Kissan jam)
  • Butter at room temperature - as required
  • Butter - to spread on the tawa (If toasting)
For additional toppings
  • Sliced, mixed fruits
  • Chopped nuts
  • Chopped avocado
  • Peanut butter instead of plain butter
HOW TO MAKE BREAD BUTTER JAM
  1. To make bread butter jam, take 3 fresh bread slices.
  2. Apply jam on one slice and butter on other. Cover it to make a sandwich.
  3. Take the 3rd bread slice and apply jam in it.
  4. Cover it to make a layered sandwich with 3 bread slices.
  5. You can cut and serve as such OR toast it. For this, apply butter on a hot tawa.
  6. Toast the bread butter jam both the sides and serve hot !
METHOD - STEP BY STEP PICTURES

  • To make bread butter jam, take 3 fresh bread slices. Apply jam on one slice, butter on the other.

  • Place the buttered slice over the jam slice and cover it. Take the 3rd bread slice and apply the jam.

  • Cover it to make a 3 layer sandwich. Now you can cut them into two halves as shown in the cover picture OR toast it following the next step.

  • To toast the bread butter jam, heat a dosa tawa and apply butter on it. Toast both the sides in low to medium flame by flipping it whenever needed.

Note

  • I used Kissan mixed fruit jam. You can use any other flavor or homemade jam too.
  • Instead of jam, you can try to use sweetened fruit pulp too.

Green Chutney Cheese Sandwich Recipe - How To Make Chutney Sandwich

Green chutney sandwich with cheese was my recent try in sandwich recipes. I tried this recipe after tasting in a sandwich shop here. Spicy Indian style green chutney with grated cheese stuffed sandwich was tasting so good. Kids would love it for sure. Raksha loved it with tomato ketchup. For me and Sendhil, I skipped adding cheese as we both are not a big fan of it. We loved the toasted, plain green chutney sandwich as such. Green chutney for sandwich can be prepared in many ways.

Here I have made it simple without adding coconut, chaat masala etc. Instead I used roasted gram dal / chutney dal for to make a thick spreadable chutney. Roasted gram dal helps to give a binding and acts as a thickening agent.  To make bright green colored chutney, I used turmeric powder and a pinch of sugar. Do not skip it. Green Chutney Cheese sandwich recipe

INGREDIENTS
  • Bread – 8 slices
  • Grated cheese – 1 cup
  • Butter – to toast
For Green chutney
  • Coriander, mint leaves – 2 handful
  • Roasted Gram dal – 2 tsp
  • Green chilli 2
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Salt - as needed
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice
HOW TO MAKE GREEN CHUTNEY SANDWICH
  1. Wash the coriander, mint leaves.
  2. Grind chilli, leaves and other ingredients given under green chutney.
  3. Grind to a smooth, thick paste and set aside.
  4. Take a bread slice and apply chutney. Spread some grated cheese.
  5. Cover the bread slice with another slice and apply butter on top side.
  6. To make the toast, smear butter on hot dosa tawa.
  7. Keep the green chutney cheese sandwich and toast both the sides till golden.
  8. Remove and serve hot with tomato ketchup or mayonnaise if you like.
METHOD - STEP BY STEP PICTURES


  • Wash the coriander and mint leaves. In a mixie jar, take all the ingredients given under “ for green chutney” to a thick, smooth paste.

  • Take 2 bread slices. Apply green chutney on one slice and cover it with grated cheese.

  • Heat a dosa tawa and apply butter. Place the sandwich and toast both the sides till golden brown. Slice and enjoy !  Serve with tomato ketchup.Green chutney cheese sandwich

Note

  • Green chutney looks bright green in color when you add sugar, turmeric powder. So don’t skip it.
  • You can skip grated cheese and use chutney alone.
  • I used cheese for Raksha and skipped it for us.

Finger Sandwich Recipe – Indian Style Tea Sandwich

Finger sandwich is in my try list for long time. I have heard from my friends its a good tea sandwich to please a gathering. English style finger sandwich can be prepared with different stuffing whereas in Indian style, people make it with mayonnaise mixed with vegetables or with green chutney, cucumber and tomato. As I have already posted mayonnaise sandwich, I tried finger sandwich with green chutney and cucumber for our weekend breakfast. It came out so tasty and colorful. Looks so cute too. I am sure this finger sandwich would be a super hit among the kids if you make it with mayonnaise base or with green chutney like this. Use fresh bread for the best taste. Also you can make this sandwich ahead of time but keep it in an air tight box, wrapped with damp paper towel or a wax paper and refrigerate till use to prevent the bread from drying.

Indian style finger sandwich recipe using green chutney, cucumber and tomato

INGREDIENTS

  • White bread or brown bread - 10
  • Cucumber - 1 or 2
  • Tomato - 1 (Seedless)
  • Chaat masala - to sprinkle
For green chutney
  • Coriander leaves - a handful
  • Mint leaves - a handful
  • Green chilli - 1 ( use 2 for spicy chutney)
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Garlic - 3 cloves
  • Almonds / badam - 5 (to give thickness to the chutney)
  • Cashew nuts - 5
  • Salt - as needed
  • Lemon juice - few drops
  • Sugar - a pinch
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch (for bright green color)
  • Water - as needed (use little and grind thick chutney)
HOW TO MAKE FINGER SANDWICH
  1. Wash and slice cucumber, tomato. Trim the edges of bread slices.
  2. Grind all the ingredients to a smooth paste adding sufficient water and make thick green chutney.
  3. Take 2 bread slices and apply butter on one of them. Spread green chutney on the other.
  4. Arrange the cucumber slice on the green chutney slice, sprinkle chaat masala and cover with the buttered bread slice.
  5. Cut into 2 or 4 pieces and decorate with a tomato slice. Insert a tooth pick and serve immediately.
  6. Enjoy this tea party finger sandwich in Indian style !
FINGER SANDWICH RECIPE - STEP BY STEP PICTURES
  • Wash and slice cucumber and tomato into round, thin slices. Set aside. 

  • Trim the brown part of bread and keep aside. Grind all the ingredients given under “Green chutney” adding less water. Make the chutney thick and spreadable.

  • Take 2 fresh bread slices. Apply butter on one slice and green chutney on the other slice.

  • Arrange cucumber slice on the green chutney slice. Sprinkle chaat masala powder and cover it with buttered bread.

  • Cut into 2 or 4 small pieces. Decorate with a thin tomato slice and insert a tooth pick. Repeat the same for the remaining bread slices too.

    Easy Chocolate Sandwich Recipe With Chocolate Syrup

    Here is an easy and quick chocolate sandwich recipe using Hershey’s chocolate syrup and butter. Usually chocolate sandwich is prepared by using cooking chocolate. But this is a quick and simple recipe I tried after tasting it in a popular Sandwich outlet named Hari super sandwich in Jayanagar, Bangalore. I watched him making this sandwich in a super quick method and took a video as well. Long back I shared the video in my Instagram page. After that I too started making chocolate sandwich very often in a slightly modified method for Raksha’s snack box and for our weekend breakfast. It has become our family favorite. It tastes so close to Hari's. Recently I noticed that I haven’t shared this simple recipe with you all. So I wanted to post this easy chocolate sandwich recipe today😊. You can use any chocolate syrup or chocolate spread in this recipe. You can use Nutella as well. I made this sandwich in a dosa tawa by toasting the bread greased with butter. You can also grill it and make grilled chocolate sandwich. It looks even more attractive. For variations, you can make this sandwich without fire, add grated cheese, garnish with chopped nuts, spirnklers etc. Make your own variations and enjoy. Friends, do try this super yummy chocolate sandwich recipe for your kids snacks or breakfast. It tastes great when served hot. Your kids would love it for sure and ask for more.     INGREDIENTS

    • Milk bread - 8 slices
    • Butter - 2 to 3 tbsp (softened )
    • Hershey’s chocolate syrup - 3 tbp ( As needed)
    HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE SANDWICH RECIPE
    1. Take 2 bread slices. Apply bread on one side of the bread.
    2. Heat a dosa tawa. Lower the flame and toast the buttered side.
    3. While the bread gets toasted in low flame, apply chocolate syrup on one slice.
    4. Spread butter in the other slice. Do this job quickly. Cover it and remove in a plate.
    5. Drizzle some chocolate syrup over the sandwich and serve hot !
    CHOCOLATE SANDWICH RECIPE - STEP BY STEP PICTURES
    • Take 2 bread slices in a plate. Apply soft butter on one side of both bread.

    • Heat a dosa tawa. Lower the flame completely. Keep the buttered side on the tawa. Toast in low flame.

    • Immediately start to apply chocolate syrup on one of the bread slices. Apply butter in the other slice.

    • As soon as the bottom is toasted, cover the sandwich by placing buttered side over the chocolate side.  Do this process quickly else bread will burn at the bottom. Bread becomes soft as it toasts. Remove it and enjoy hot. I cut into 6 small pieces just like the way it was served in Hari Sandwich center. Its easy to eat and looks cute as well !

    • Drizzle more chocolate syrup if you like. Enjoy hot for best taste !

    Note

    • For variations, you can apply chocolate spread instead of syrup.
    • Remember you should keep the flame very low while spreading the chocolate and butter. Do it quickly else bread will burn at the bottom.
    • You can sprinkle some cheese gratings to make cheese chocolate sandwich recipe.
    • You can also grill the sandwich in a toaster instead of dosa tawa.
    • Use fresh milk bread for best taste.

    After a long gap, I am sharing a recipe with avocado because this healthy fruit is very rarely available in my placeSad. So whenever I see it in Reliance fresh, I take one to try some interesting recipes with it. Avocado is popularly known as “Butter fruit” in India. So far I have tried and posted avocado paratha, avocado milkshake and Guacamole recipes and that too very long back. So this time I made Indian style, vegetarian avocado sandwich for a change. This no cook sandwich is a quick and easy breakfast/dinner recipe. Its a vegan recipe as well. You can use whole wheat bread to make it healthy and low in calorie. I don’t think kids would like this sandwich. If you use milk bread, add lots of grated cheese to the sandwich filling and toast it with butter, kids may like to have itWinking. But this is an ideal recipe for adults who look for weight loss. One sandwich, a banana and a glass of milk was very much filling for meHappy. You too give a try !     INGREDIENTS

    • Ripen avocado - 1 no ( Big)
    • Green chilli - 1 no ( finely chopped)
    • Big onion - 1 no ( finely chopped)
    • Grated carrot - 1/4 cup
    • Lemon juice - Few drops
    • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
    • Chopped capsicum - 2 tbsp
    • Ripe tomato - 1/2 no ( finely chopped)
    • Salt - As needed
    • Pepper powder - 1/2 to 1 tsp
    • Chat masala powder - 1/2 tsp ( add more if needed)
    • Olive oil or cooking oil - 1 tsp
    METHOD

    • In a plate, wash and cut the avocado into two pieces vertically.Remove the seed with a knife. Scoop out the pulp and discard the skin.

    • In a wide bowl, take the paste, grated carrot, finely chopped green chilli, onion, tomato, coriander leaves, required salt, chat masala and pepper powder. Mix well.

    • Take two bread slices, trim off the sides if needed. Apply butter on one bread if needed.Apply the sandwich filling on the other bread.Cover it and grill or toast the sandwich if needed. I served it raw.

    Vegetable Mayonnaise sandwich was in my try list for long time. I make sandwich recipes only during weekends if I have less time to prepare breakfastWinking. Most of the time I make vegetable sandwich in this way. Recent days I started looking for varieties of Indian vegetarian sandwich ideas. One such recipe is this Veg Mayo sandwich. In fact my friend Shalini told this recipe long back but couldn’t try it. Last week I bought a box of Fun Foods Veg Mayonnaise ( eggless mayonnaise) to slather in Veg burger for my daughter. Suddenly I reminded about this sandwich and tried it with few leftover bread slices at home. As the sandwich filling/spread is a no cook recipe,I felt it very easy to make.The only time consuming part is to grate or chop the vegetables finelyTongue. When you make it for just two people, its not that difficult too. I have toasted the bread with butter before filling with the mayonnaise spread. But toasting the bread is completely optional. If you want to prepare a quick and simple sandwich, you can just smear butter in the fresh, plain bread slice and enjoy it. If your kids like this sandwich, you can pack this for their snack box. Overall, this sandwich is a good choice for Indian vegetarians to make a quick breakfast or dinner. Ideal for bachelors and working women.     INGREDIENTS
    1 cup - 250ml
    • Bread slices – 6 nos ( I used white bread, U can use whole wheat bread too)
    • Eggless Mayonnaise – 1/2 cup ( I used Fun Foods brand)
    • Grated carrot – 1/4 cup
    • Capsicum – 2 tbsp ( Chopped finely)
    • Big onion – 1/4 cup ( chopped finely)
    • Boiled Sweet corn – 1/4 cup
    • Chopped Tomato - 1 tbsp
    • Black Pepper powder – 1 tsp
    • Red Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
    • Chat masala powder - 1/2 tsp ( optional)
    • Salt – as needed
    • Grated Cheese  or cheese slices – 2 tbsp /  3 slices (Optional)
    • Butter or ghee - As needed ( to toast the bread)
    METHOD

    • Take a bowl and mix all the ingredients except bread slices. Make the filling and keep it ready.

    • Heat a dosa pan and melt a tsp of butter. Toast a bread slice till golden brown on both the sides. Toast all the slices similarly.

    • Take a toasted slice and spread the mayonnaise stuffing.Cover it with another slice of bread. Cut it diagonally and serve immediately.

    • For variations, you can skip the toasting part and make it in raw bread to make your job simple. If you use fresh bread, this sandwich would be very tasty. For this, apply butter on one side of bread, spread the filling and cover with the another buttered bread slice. You can also grill this sandwich if you wish.Enjoy !

    • Adjust the quantity of pepper powder as per your taste.
    • You can add grated cheese in the filling if making for kids.
    • You can make this sandwich using fresh, raw bread slices without toasting them.
