 Recently I saw this Apple chikoo milkshake/ Apple Sapodilla milkshake recipe in the milkshake menu of Salem Lakshmi hotel. When I saw it titled as Queen palace milkshake, I got tempted to try at home. The combination of apple, chiku/ sapodilla / sapota , ice cream, milk, vanilla and honey sounds new, healthy and interesting as well. I know many kids would refuse to eat whole fruits. For those fussy kids, fruits milkshake is the best option. As we add ice cream to it, it gives a thick, creamy taste with a nice flavor. Raksha never touches sapota fruit even though she had read its health benefits like its good for eyes, bones, develops immunity etc. But today she had a small glass of this milkshake without any complaints. We too liked it very much. Its so easy to make. Just combine all the ingredients and blend it. Tasty apple chikoo milkshake would be ready in minutes. INGREDIENTS
1 cup - 250ml
  • Sapota / Sapodilla Fruit - 2 nos
  • Apple - 1 no
  • Boiled, Chilled Milk - 1 cup
  • Sugar or honey - 1 tbsp ( I used honey)
  • Vanilla essence - 1/4 tsp
  • Vanilla ice cream - 2 scoops
METHOD
  1. Wash and peel the fruits. Cut and remove the seeds. 
  2. Blend the chopped fruits with other ingredients till smooth.
  3. Transfer to a glass, garnish with nuts if you like and serve immediately.
METHOD - STEP BY STEP PICTURES
  • Wash and peel the skin of apple and sapodilla/ sapota using a peeler. Chop into big cubes and remove the seeds.

  • In a big mixie jar, take the chopped fruits, honey, vanilla essence, ice cream and chilled milk. Grind till smooth.

  • Pour the milkshake to a tall glass. Garnish with chopped nuts if you like. (I sprinkled my homemade caramel which I made for butterscotch ice cream). Serve immediately.

Last year few readers requested me to share this Ganga Jamuna juice recipe that is most popular in juice shops. But I had no clue as I haven’t tasted or heard about it. Later I came to know Ganga Jamuna juice is nothing but a combination of orange juice and sweet lime juice (Mosambi) in equal quantity. Recently we had some fresh fruit juice in Salem Lakshmi hotel’s juice corner. There I clicked a picture of juice recipes given in the menu in Tamil. I have shared the picture in my Instagram page today. When I saw the recipe of this Ganga Jamuna juice in that list, I got tempted and tried it today. Its a very simple recipe but people make it in different ways based on their taste. Some people like to have a pulpy juice without sugar.It may taste slightly bitter because of grinding seeds and the skin. But I made a clear juice just by squeezing the fruits in hands, strained it and added sugar for taste. Raksha loved it a lot.I have shared both the methods below. For variations, you can mix pineapple juice and call it as Ganga Jamuna Saraswati juice. Soon I will share more juice recipes and milkshakes from that menu. How to make Ganga Jamuna Juice Recipe

INGREDIENTS

1 cup = 250ml
  • Mosambi / Sweet lime - 1 no
  • Orange - 1 no
  • Water - as needed (based on sourness of fruits)
  • Sugar - 1 tbsp
  • Ice cubes - 2 nos
  • Salt / black salt – a pinch (optional)

METHOD

  1. Wash and cut the fruits into two parts.
  2. Squeeze the juice. Add sugar, mix well.
  3. Strain the juice and discard the seeds and pulp.
  4. Check for taste and add some water if needed.
  5. Serve in a glass adding ice cubes.Enjoy !

METHOD - STEP BY STEP PICTURES

  • Method 1 : Wash and cut the fruits into two as shown in the picture below. Remove the seeds.

  • Squeeze the fruits using your hands or in a citrus juicer. Collect the juice in a bowl and add sugar to it. Mix well till sugar dissolves completely. Filter the juice in a glass.

  • Serve fresh adding few ice cubes ! Enjoy !
  • Method 2 : Wash and peel the skin of orange and sweet lime. Separate the segments and remove the seeds, fiber part.
  • Grind in a mixie adding sugar and little water. Transfer the juice to a bowl, strain it and enjoy in a serving glass adding few ice cubes.
  • If you like to have pulpy juice, no need to strain the juice.

Orange mocktail / Orange lemon juice recipe is a simple and yummy summer drinks recipe. I make juices & milk shakes with fruits very rarely as we love to eat whole fruits. Recently I had this Orange mocktail in a juice corner. Raksha & myself loved it a lot. She told me to pack it for her school morning break time. So I browsed for mocktail recipes without alcohol and found it from Sharmi’s blog. The combination of Orange juice and lemon juice was perfect. Raksha gave a big thumbs up after drinking it and she told me to make it very often too. I usually make Eggless Orange cake during this fruit season.I am happy that I got yet another interesting recipe using orange fruit. Aam Ka Panna Recipe-Raw Mango Drink-Summer Recipes

Aam Panna @Aam ka panna is one of the most popular Summer drinks of North India.It is made using the pulp of cooked Raw mangoes(Kacha Mango) blended with jaggery or sugar along with some spices.It is considered to be the best,healthy beverage/drink to beat Indian summer heat.As green mangoes are rich in source of oxalic acid,Citric acid and malic acid,it is used to treat Gastro intestinal disorders.It is also a good source of Vitamin C,B1,B2.So it is used as a tonic to increase the resistance against tuberculosis,anaemia,Cholera and dysentry.I wanted to start my summer recipes with mangoes.To begin with,i tried this drink today for the first time after referring few recipes from various websites.I came across different versions using smoked raw mangoes and steamed raw mangoes.Some recipes are with sugar & some called for Jaggery.I followed a recipe based on my convenience & family likings.Whatever be the method,making aam panna is so easy and tastes great too.I felt its taste was too close to our South Indian Panagam recipe which we make for Rama Navami.Myself and Sendhil enjoyed a glass of it and we loved it a lot.You can prepare this juice in minutes if u have the panna concentrate ready in hand.Lets see how to prepare this flavorful,popular North Indian drink-Aam Ka Panna/Raw Mango juice recipe.

Aam panna recipe Aam panna recipe/Raw mango drink- Healthy North Indian beverage using raw mangoes
Cuisine: Indian

Serves: 1.5 cups

Cook time: 10 Minutes
Total time: 20 Minutes


INGREDIENTS

  • Raw mango - 2 nos (small round ones, I used one long variety)
  • Jaggery - 1 cup ( heaped) ( Pulp & jaggery ratio is 1:2)
  • Cardamom - 2 nos
  • Black salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Roasted cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper corns – 1/4 tsp
  • Mint leaves – few ( to garnish)
METHOD

  • Method – 1 : Wash and steam cook the mangoes in a pressure cooker or idli pot.Once its cooked,peel the skin and squeeze the pulp.Take in a plate and keep aside.( I got 1/2 cup of pulp)

  • Method – 2 :Alternatively,u can burn the mangoes over direct flame till it turns like a charcoal.Cook in medium flame and turn it every now and then.Remove when the mango is cooked completely.Discard the burnt skin and take out the pulp.Keep it ready.U can follow this method if u want smoky flavor in the drink.I followed First method as we don’t like smoky flavor in our food.
  • After taking the pulp from the mangoes,measure it in a cup.Take grated jaggery that is twice the measure of mango pulp.In my case,i got 1/2 cup(heaped) of pulp.So i used 1 cup (heaped) of grated jaggery.

  • In a mixie jar,take the pepper corns,roasted cumin powder,Black salt and cardamom seeds.Powder it nicely.To this powder,add jaggery and pulse it twice.
  • Lastly add the mango pulp and grind it well to make a smooth paste.No need to add water.Aam panna concentrate is ready. Remove the paste using a clean spoon and store in a bottle.

  • To make this drink,take 2 tbsp of concentrate and mix in a cup of water(200ml).Check the taste and add more paste or water based on your taste.Enjoy adding few ice cubes and mint leaves.

Note

  • Follow method 1 or 2 based on ur liking.
  • The ratio of mango pulp and jaggery should be 1:2
  • You can also use sugar instead of jaggery.
  • Black salt gives a nice flavor to this drink.so don’t skip it.

Avocado milkshake recipe was in my try list for a long time.In Indian juice shops,it is mostly mentioned as butter fruit juice.Based on its consistency u can call it as a juice or milkshake.I tasted this milkshake without condensed in a juice shop recently.It was very nice yes.From then,i wanted to post this recipe in my food book because this is the easiest avocado recipes and it amazing health benefits.As u all know,avocado recipes tastes the best only when the fruit is ripe else u can't even taste a bit of it  and U have to throw the entire dish into the binfrown.Please be careful while buying an avocado.Check out this link on How to choose n buy Avocado if u are buying it for the first time.When u have a ripe avocado in hand,don't forget to try this healthy,easy n tasty milkshake recipe.U'll love its taste.Do check out my super soft avocado paratha and guacamole dip  with its health benefits if u are interested.

Ingredients
  • Ripe Butter fruit/Avocado - 1/2 no
  • Cold milk - 2 cups
  • Sugar - 1- 2 tbsp
 
Instructions
  1. Wash and cut avocado into two vertically. U'll find a big seed inside.Remove it and discard.Now scoop out the pulp using a ladle.
  2. Grind it in a mixer or juicer adding sugar or honey &  cold milk.Adjust more or less milk based on the desired consistency.

WATERMELON JUICE RECIPE|SUMMER DRINKS


Watermelon juice is an effective thirst quencher and coolant to beat the summer heat with amazing health benefits.Though i know this very well,I have never bought this fruit as i had an aversion from my childhood.But now,being a food blogger,i love to try and taste recipes with all vegetables or fruits.So this year i bought watermelon for the first time and prepared this juice.Its basically a low calorie drink but its filling and keeps us energetic & active for hours.Its always good to eat a fruit as it is instead of making juice adding sugar and other sweeteners.We too like that way.But for blogging purpose,i made this simple juice recipe Winking smile.Soon i’ll post an easy salad for summer with watermelon.

  • Watermelon - 1/2 no (medium size)
  • Ice cubes – as needed
  • Sugar or honey - as needed (optional)
  • Pepper powder or chat masala pwd – a pinch
METHOD

  • Cut the watermelon into slices and remove the seeds.Cut into small cubes and grind it along with sugar or honey if desired.I din’t use sugar as my watermelon itself was very sweet.Add a pinch of chat masala or pepper powder if u wish.Strain the juice and enjoy adding ice cubes!!

  • Its always better to have this fruit as it is.Some kids don’t like to eat.So u can make this juice and try..
  • Consume the juice immediately after u grind.
  • Addition of chat masala or pepper powder is completely optional.

Musk melon also known as Cantaloupe/Honey dew/Mash melon in English,Kirni pazham in Tamil,Kekkarikke Hannu in Kannada and Kharbooja in Telugu and Hindi.It is low in calories and a best summer drink..

Last year, i posted musk melon @ Cantaloupe juice recipe from my Mil’s hands.This year, i tried on my own.Here in Bangalore,we get orange colored musk melon.I love that color a lot.As summer is almost in peak,we really feel like having a fresh fruit or juice/ice creams in the noon.So i am trying   lot of juice recipes and planning to share them in my space.

To start with,musk melon is one of the best coolants for summer and a great thirst quencher too.Its health benefits are innumerable.The biggest advantage is that it is low in calories,low in Saturated Fat and very low in Cholesterol.It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Niacin, Vitamin B6 and Folate,and a very good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Potassium.It is good for asthma,diabetes,arthritis,High BP,heart disease and heat strokes.But the only bad thing is that a large portion of the calories in this food come from sugars.So its better to add less sugar while u make the juice to cut down calories.Do try this yummy & healthy summer drink recipe.U’ll feel refreshing Smile..

  • Sugar - 2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice - few drops (optional)

  • Wash and cut the musk melon into two halves.Scoop the seeds out.Remove the pulp using a ladle.

  • Take them in  a mixie jar,add sugar and lemon juice(if using).Beat well.Check the consistency and add little water if needed.Serve in  a glass adding ice cubes.Enjoy !

Note

For variations,replace water by boiled and cooled milk to make a milkshake.But add more sugar.Tastes rich.If u add milk,do not add lemon juice.use cardamom powder if needed.
